Doconut .NET 6

Overview

Doconut is an enterprise-ready document viewer control for .NET, supporting many file formats such as PDF, Office files, CAD formats, images, and more.

Doconut allows you to integrate document viewing with minimal setup and includes features such as:

Document rendering for multiple formats
Search and print
Annotation workflows
Viewer customization

Known limitations

DICOM technical metadata is not available on .NET 6. Reading DICOM tags requires the medical-imaging engine, which has no .NET 6 build, so Viewer.GetDicomMetadataAsync always returns null and the metadata endpoint answers 501 Not Implemented on this package. Use Doconut.NET8 if you need technical metadata.

DICOM rendering — pages, frames and animation — is fully supported on .NET 6 and is unaffected.

Running on Linux

Doconut .NET 6 runs on Windows and on glibc-based Linux, x64 and arm64 (for example the official mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/aspnet:6.0-bookworm-slim image, which is Debian 12; the default aspnet:6.0 tag is Debian 11, whose package mirrors can fail to install libfontconfig1). On arm64, presentation formats need glibc 2.39 or later (Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.04 or later). Alpine and other musl-based distributions are not supported.

On Linux, install the font configuration library before the first document opens:

Without it, opening a document fails with an error that names libfontconfig1. Nothing else needs to be installed: the native libraries Doconut uses ship with the package. libgdiplus is not required.

Pages are drawn with the fonts installed on the server, and libfontconfig1 brings only a basic set (DejaVu). Fonts a document uses but the server lacks are substituted, so line breaks can differ from Windows. For closer layout install metric-compatible fonts such as fonts-liberation and fonts-crosextra-carlito, or copy your own licensed fonts to /usr/share/fonts/ and run fc-cache -f.
