AutoMapper utils

Some utility methods for working with the fabulous AutoMapper.

// Can be backed by almost anything: ExpandoObject, IReadOnlyDictionary<string,object>, whatever.
dynamic myDynamicData = ... ;

// If the structure of myDynamicData matches the structure of MyStaticType, it will be mapped.
// By default, uses DefaultAutoMapperConfigurer.
// You should use FluentValidation or something to validate the mapped data.
var myTypedData = AutoMapperUtils.MapAs<MyStaticType>(myDynamicData);

// Or if you want to use the usual IMapper interface from the standard AutoMapper library, but
// with the configurer from this package ...
var mapper = new MapperConfiguration(DefaultAutoMapperConfigurer.Instance.Configure).CreateMapper();
var myOtherTypedData = mapper.Map<MyStaticType>(myDynamicData);
// ... etc ...

DefaultAutoMapperConfigurer

Unless a different configurer is provided, the DefaultAutoMapperConfigurer from this package is used. This contains additional mappings that I find useful:

  • string to TimeSpan, e.g. 2d, 5h, etc.
  • string to relative Url (by default, AutoMapper only allows absolute URLs to be mapped to Url).
