IVSoftware.Portable.Csv.SingleInstanceSerializer

As a basic premise, the GetCsvHeader method will reflect the property names of Class<T> and the methods ToCsvLine and FromCsvLine will use that array to index the values in the columns of the file. The [CsvIgnore] attribute is used to make any given property invisible to the serializer.

Version 1.0.3 added features:

  • The type conversion has been greatly expanded, and now supports almost any System type that has a static Parse method.

  • Using the new Extract method, an instance can be created by cherry-picking values from an arbitrary CSV file where the header and values do not strictly follow the format of the generated header. In this case, a class can be designed with properties that correspond to the values of interest in the file. Other values in other columns will be safely ignored. In general, this would be used to compose a Master Record list comprised of different properties from different files.

The [HeaderText] attribute makes a property mappable to header names in the file that are different from the property names in the class.

The [StringFormat] attribute makes a numeric or DateTime value formattable.

Usage

A TestBench project is included in this repo. When it is selected as the Startup Project, option keys work as follows:

Modifier Keys:
  • [Control] Reads file using Extract instead of FromCsvLine (which requires a strict header)
  • [ALT] Opens loopback in System Default App (e.g. MS Excel) instead of Notepad.
  • [CapsLock] Generates an irregular file of FuzzyRecord e.g. where CsvHeader is "ID, Test String, ExtraString, ExtraInt, Int32" and reads it back as MasterRecord as a way of testing the Extract method. (Reading the irregular file using FromCsvLine would throw exceptions in this case and this is by design.)

- Serializer now supports most System types.
- Added Extract method which allows deserialization when header is not an exact match.
- Added [HeaderText] attribute which allows header names differ from the property name.
- Added [StringFormat] attribute for numeric and date-time based values.
