Barcode and QR-Code Recognition for .NET MAUI

High-performance recognition of 1D and 2D barcodes with support for multi-barcode detection (multiple barcodes per image).
Recognized content can optionally be displayed as an overlay inside a MAUI View.

Supported Formats

  • Aztec
  • Codabar
  • Code39
  • Code93
  • Code128
  • DataMatrix
  • EAN-8
  • EAN-13
  • ITF
  • MaxiCode
  • PharmaCode
  • PDF417
  • QR Code
  • RSS14
  • RSS Expanded
  • UPC-A
  • UPC-E
  • UPC-EAN
  • MSI
  • IMB

Fluent API

Since version 2.1.0, a modern Fluent API is available to simplify configuration and integration of barcode recognition into your .NET MAUI applications.
This makes the setup more intuitive and reduces boilerplate code.

Licensing

This library can be used in trial mode with the following limitations:

  • When using the MAUI View integration, a "Trial" watermark will be displayed while recognition is active.
  • When using the Recognizer directly (without a MAUI View), the number of recognition operations is limited to a fixed amount per application start. Once this limit is reached, recognition will stop working until the application is restarted.

Further notes:

  • The trial version is intended for testing and development purposes only.
  • It is not intended for production use.
  • The trial version can be used without time restrictions.

For production deployments, a license must be purchased.

Examples

See .NET MAUI usage examples at CapCognition.

Documentation

See Documentation for more details.

Platform Support

  • Android
  • iOS

Only Android and iOS are supported.
For Windows, Linux and ARM64 platforms, please use the CapCognition .NET LTS version.

Release Notes

Version 2.2.1

  • Based on new core library version 2.2.1 with improved performance and bugfixes
  • Improved compatibility with the updated asynchronous processing lifecycle in CapCognition.Maui.Core
  • Improved stability during parallel and continuous recognition

Version 2.2.0

  • Multi target nuget for .NET MAUI 10 and .NET MAUI 9
  • Library initialization simplified
  • Continuous capturing and recognition switched to "Pull-Frame" mechanism for simpler and more efficient stream capturing

Version 2.1.6

  • Small bugfixes

Version 2.1.5

  • Drawing options made accessible during runtime to change appearance of overlay without recreating the view

Version 2.1.4

  • Multi-barcode detection performance improved
  • New Binarizer (AdaptiveHybridBinarizer) added for better QR recognition in distorted and blurry images
  • New QR Finder (ImprovedQRFinder) added for improved QR recognition in difficult conditions with shadows and low contrast
  • New QR Decoder (ImprovedQRDecoder) added for better QR recognition in difficult conditions and perspective distortions
  • Many speed optimizations and improvements for barcode recognition on ARM based systems (e.g. Raspberry Pi)

Version 2.1.3

  • Fixed TryInverted option not working correctly

Version 2.1.2

  • nuget dependencies updated to latest versions
  • option switch fixed and optimized

Version 2.1.1

  • options made disposable and some tool functions added

Version 2.1.0

  • Added Fluent API for simplified configuration and integration

Version 2.0.4

  • Improved debugging: Added more diagnostic information to logs
  • Updated NuGet dependencies (except Microsoft MAUI controls for maximum compatibility)

Decoder updates

MaxiCode and PharmaCode are publicly selectable again, and MSI/PharmaCode work in mixed format selections. Plessey has no decoder and is no longer listed in the public format enum; MSI remains a separate supported format. Numeric values of the other formats are unchanged.

All formats means the publicly supported enum entries. Undefined numeric format values are rejected. MaxiCode expects an isolated, axis-aligned symbol; it does not add a general perspective detector. PharmaCode has no direction marker or checksum: reading it backwards may yield a different valid number. In mixed selections it runs after the other decoders, including on subsequent frames.

The scanner tries full images in all enabled rotations first. If those attempts fail, it searches quadrants and the centre. Disable this extra work using BarcodeRecognitionOptions.TryQuadrantFallback = false or the builder's SetTryQuadrantFallback(false).

QR results include mask, symbology identifier and corrected-error count metadata. Error counts are also returned for Aztec, Data Matrix, PDF417 and MaxiCode. Unsupported ECI encodings fail decoding rather than silently substituting UTF-8. Applications requiring legacy code pages should register their encoding provider before the first scan.
